Summertime is here! For most of us, it is the best time of the year. More time for us to enjoy the outdoors, time with friends and family, or our favorite summertime snacks.
But during the summer, we can encounter a slump. Not knowing what to do with too much time on our hands. Having a summer fun checklist can help with the burden of boredom.
Get Outside.
Make the most of the warm months by spending time outside, especially if you live in an area with extremely cold winters.
- Go for a swim. Don’t have a pool? Find a nearby lake, creek, or river to take a dip. Bring some floaties and cold beverages, and make a day of it.
- Have a picnic. This activity is enjoyable with others or on your own. Pack your favorites and appreciate what nature has to offer.
- Attend a local festival. Many towns and cities hold local festivals during the summer. If you’re looking for events in your area, check out a site like Eventbrite to discover what’s happening nearby.
Get Creative & Learn Something New.
This is a wonderful opportunity to explore something new or start a new hobby.
- Learn to paddleboard or surf. If you live near the ocean, consider trying surfing. If you don’t live by the ocean, that’s fine. Try paddleboarding instead! This activity can be enjoyed in a river or a lake.
- Take a cooking class. Enhance your cooking skills this summer by enrolling in a local cooking class. These classes can focus on specific dishes or highlight seasonal recipes.
- Tour a museum. Museums are places to discover new information, learn history, and gather ideas from other creative individuals. Take a guided tour or enjoy the self-guided tour to learn something new.
Fun for Everyone.
Keeping school-age kids entertained all summer can be challenging. Having planned activities for them to look forward to can help maintain their engagement throughout the season.
- Go to the drive-ins. This may seem old-fashioned, but I assure you this will create a core memory. Choose a movie night for the family and plan an entire evening. Find a drive-in theater near you here.
- Have a water balloon fight. On a hot day when you don’t feel like packing everyone up to go to the pool, a quick trip to the dollar store for some water balloons is a great alternative!
- Visit every playground in town. Tiring out kids can be challenging at times. Create a fun game by visiting every playground in town, allowing them to expend their energy
Remember to Relax.
While outdoor activities are most popular in the summer, taking a day to rest and reset can sometimes be just what you need after many activities.
- Read a book. Taking a break from screen time can be a great way to relax. You can do this in your home or outside on your porch.
- Have a spa day. Self-care is the best way to relax, and it can look different for everyone. You might have an at-home spa day with skincare, manicures, or include meditation.
- Try yoga. Take a break, and consider trying beginner yoga exercises. There are many beginner courses available on YouTube to choose from.
Summertime is the best season of the year. The sun is shining, restaurants open their outdoor seating, time for water activities, and there are more hobbies to get involved in.
