As I’ve mentioned in the past, photography has always held a special place in my heart. I love taking photographs and then coming home to edit them, transforming them into my pieces of artwork. It’s something I genuinely enjoy and am passionate about. Currently working in marketing and advertising, I’ve acquired a few valuable photography tips that I’d like to share.
For instance, if I were helping a client create an advertisement for their pizza shop, I wouldn’t include an image of ice cream. That would send the wrong message about their business. I’ve also discovered that many business owners do not particularly enjoy the marketing process, but they understand its importance for spreading the word about their company.
With that in mind, I recently came across the article, You’re Right, Marketing Sucks, written by Kristen Kalp. Kalp is a teacher, healer, and business coach who offers strategies and tactics to help businesses thrive.

She is able to put marketing in an easy to understand perspective. Not only for marketers, but for business to understand the importance of marketing. Speaking directly to the reader, engaging with a conversational tone. As a business coach, it’s vital for her readers to feel the words come alive, and that’s exactly how I felt while reading.
In her article, she emphasizes that business owners should focus on marketing in a way they enjoy. She makes an analogy about training for a marathon: “Let’s say you’re training for a marathon, and you need to run 14 miles a week. You can run 2 miles a day, or… You know, forget about it and then try running 14 miles in a day… You have full permission to cancel your Twitter account, delete your blog, ignore your email newsletter, and/or otherwise ensure you don’t do that marketing thing you hate any longer.” Just as a marathon runner has various training methods, business owners require differing approaches to market themselves, preparing for new customers while ensuring stable services for current ones.
I loved this analogy. I’ve witnessed this first-hand working in the marketing field. For example, business owners rush around on the day of print, trying to perfect their advertisements. They want to ensure their business is marketed with the right message, but do not always put marketing at the top of their priority list. Business owners should feel excited about promoting their business. Marketing should be a fun and engaging way to showcase what they have to offer. For some, it offers customers insight into how the company began. It’s a wonderful way for customers to connect with them personally.
If you are a marketer or a business owner, this information can offer valuable insights into effective marketing tactics. However, even if you’re not in the marketing field or running a business, these insights can still benefit anyone looking to promote themselves online, showcase their artwork, or highlight something they take pride in. At the core of it all is the message of marketing. The key is to identify how you want to promote your “product.”
